The DIGG has been tasked with compiling valid figures and data on the healthcare situation in the field of vascular diseases in Germany. Demographic change, with a rapidly ageing population, and the many innovations in the treatment of cardiovascular diseases underscore the need for up-to-date figures.
There are currently around 500,000 medical devices on the market in Europe, and suitable data must also be collected on their use following the introduction of the Medical Device Regulation (MDR).
Today, around 237 million people worldwide are living with peripheral arterial disease (PAD), and half of the approximately 537 million people with diabetes will develop severe PAD during their lifetime. Despite all the advances in complementary medicine and preventive healthcare, up to 80,000 patients in Germany alone undergo lower limb amputations.
Together, these figures illustrate the importance of data-based healthcare research and quality development using healthcare data.
Why Quality Development?
Complementary and interdisciplinary vascular medicine is considered an innovative field undergoing rapid change and numerous developments in the area of medical devices. This dynamic has a direct impact on treatment outcomes and requires the collection of healthcare data in order to verify the validity of randomised controlled trials (RCTs).
